Operation Manatee #8: So this is the other side…

In this show, Cory and Chris explore new territory. Cory is winging it, which makes him uncomfortable. Chris refuses to wear pants, which also makes Cory uncomfortable. They even played a couple of vinyl records. We’re not sure what vinyl is, but it’s heavy and Chris seems to like it.

First of all, thanks to Chris for the really nice post on Friday!

Second of all, yes… the inevitable has happened. The ball has become chained, the noose has become tightened… um, the goose has been cooked…? However else you want to say it, I am now hitched… I figure the mother of my daughter, the co-signor to all my loans and debts should also become my wife… the Sith to my Jedi (maybe… somedays…)

The point? I’ve been REALLY busy for the last 4-5 days and I’m not sure what kind of music I’ll manage to throw together for your listening enjoyment tonight. Come, tune in tonight at 11:00 pm and see just how scattered we can REALLY be!

Cory Becomes a Man This Weekend

deathcake
For those of you who do not know, Cory is getting married to his girl Holly this weekend. It will likely be a loud and decidedly good time.

I can’t remember if they wanted presents or whatever, but in lieu of mail bombs, I say we send cory a big congrats!

Send him a shout on Twitter: @indulgentcory

If you haven’t been invited to the wedding, it’s probably because he doesn’t like you. You already know the Twitter handle to use to scorn him. You should also listen to blisteringly loud punk and metal instead of crashing the wedding!

Operation Manatee #7: While Chris is away…

With Chris out sick or fighting zombies or something, Cory fires it up at Regina Community Radio with some pop stuff, rock stuff, punk stuff and maybe even a soulful rendition of Ol’ Man River. Or maybe not.

Mwa-hahahahahahahaha….

The flu is a bitch… Being all “flu-y”… making people sick. Well, making Chris sick anyways. Cory will be venturing into unknown territory and delivering a solo episode of Operation Manatee tonight, from 11:00 to midnight.

What could happen? What could go wrong?? Famous last words or brash sensationalist statements to make you listen? Hey, if it works for Fox News it HAS to work for us, right?

Operation Manatee #6: Junos, Japan, Juicy Jabberwocky!

This week, Cory and Chris talk a bit about and play tracks related to the 2013 Junos in Regina. They also manage to include a Nine Inch Nails cover by Devo.

With the Junos recently passed, we figured it might be nice to give an appropriate nod to the long-time Canadian award and music series. After fighting over which Beebs tune is the best, we pared down a few Juno-related favs that we think you’ll enjoy. We also agreed on a few ground rules including the following:

1. No Beebs tune is better than another.
2. No Beebs tune should be played on OpMan.
3. No Operation Manatee host will be able to stop the other from playing Beebs if he is away.

It wont all be about that, though. There will be a strong collection of the usual fun things. Kind of like that CD you have – you know the one – that fell behind your CD shelf and has been housing a family of spiders for the last 8 years, and you forgot it existed, but when you found it you were all like, “HOLY CRAP! I remember this! This is the best CD I ever owned! I need to listen to this RIGHT NOW or my head will explode!”

Stuff like that.

Tune in tonight from 11:00 to midnight or we will broadcast NUDE! Wait…… no.

Chris’ Taste of the 2013 Junos – @$%^#@$%^!&… Well, whatever.

Chris tells a short story about how his Juno 2013 experience went. It includes a bit of whining, but also mentions Corb Lund, Sarah Slean, Rose Cousins, Royal Wood, Jim Cuddy, Amelia Curran and more.

Junos
So… I wasn’t going to do any Juno stuff. Largely, I’ve never really cared about pop music contests and that’s only increased with time. If the junos weren’t in Regina this past weekend, I would have done what I do about them every year: not a god damned thing.

However, since it’s the first time the Junos have been Regina, in its 43-year history, I figured I’d better take what opportunity I can get.

JunoFest includes all events and performances outside of the main awards show. That’s all I had interest in attending.

I only had one night open, so I figured I’d better make the best of it. The most appealing show to me was at The Exchange. Doors at 9:00. Here’s where things got a little aggrivating.

Kobo Town – Jumbie in the Jukebox

Cory discovers a super-cool calypso artist called Kobo Town, of all things, and gives a brief overview.

Kobo Town - Jumbie in the Jukebox

“Jumbie in the Jukebox”¬†generally isn’t the kind of album I’d pick up on my own. I rarely browse through music sections outside of my mainstays; rock, heavy metal, punk. But every once in a while I listen to something, usually on a recommendation (or threat) from a friend, that makes me re-think my listening strategy. Kobo Town’s new album definitely falls into this category… and no, I wasn’t threatened.

Operation Manatee #5: Three Decades Ago…

This week, Cory makes fun of Chris on his 30th birthday, even though Cory is an old man. Also, you get to hear Pennywise and Chromeo in the same show!

It’s somebod-eeeeeee’s BIIIIIRRRRRRRRTHDAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

Join us tonight as we go live from 11:00 pm to midnight on 91.3 FM in Regina or use whatever means necessary (ie, see “How Can I Listen?” section).

Yes, it is Chris’ actual birthday today. We won’t dwell too much on the birthday shenanigans, but send him some congratulations on turning the big 3-0 either by commenting here or tweeting him @carliermusic. IT’LL BE A PARRRR-TAY!

Operation Manatee #4: “Spring” Fresh Tracks

Zombies in April? Cory and Chris keep it fairly heavy in this show including stuff like Rob Zombie & White Zombie, spicing it up with Sublime and even some Joel Plaskett.

Rob Zombie

Wow! It’s later in the day to be writing a blog post about something “fresh”…

Operation Manatee will be back this evening at 11:00 pm for your aural pleasures! I know I’m always pleased… pleasured… um… happy?

But whatever your status, tune in later tonight to hear some new tracks just in time for the spring to summer rush; new Queens of the Stone Age, new The Transplants and yes… new Rob Zombie as well!

Operation Manatee #3: Feeling (S-)Mashy

Cory and Chris lose their urge to smash things and manage to play a steady mix of old and new tunes from a variety of styles – like Thunderheist’s crazy electronic dancey whatever that is.

Image

Luckily, Cory didn’t break the CJTR feed last week so here we come again.. another Tuesday night, another Operation Manatee coming for your ear-holes!

Last week we got a little electronic-happy. Not that it’s a bad thing, but too much electro makes Cory something-something… every intent was being prepared to bring the hammer down this week, to be loud, abrasive and unashamed!

But that’s not likely about to happen. Tune in tonight (or tomorrow’s recording) to find out just how it all mashes together!

Episode 2 is LIVE!! (in recorded form…)

GOOD NEWS everyone! My recording last night didn’t break the internet nor did it break the CJTR signal. So in case you missed Operation Manatee, episode 2, you can now listen to it here:

Operation Manatee – Episode 2

So now if you’ve missed the show because “we’re on too late” or “I have to get up early on Wednesdays” or “I don’t know how to work tech-mologies”… here you go!
