There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in. (Cohen)

This has been a fucked up year for music. We weren’t ready for Bowie to go, we didn’t see it coming with Prince, we thought Sharon Jones had it beat… Even with the old-timers – part of me thought Leonard Cohen would make to 200, and Leon Russell would at least make it to his 80s. Despite the darkness, though, there has been so much great new music come into the world – including some by those greats we’ve lost.

That’s the thing about music though, man – and I’m trying to avoid a bad cliche, but – music will be here forever, and certainly they really do live on in each note we hear again.

Operation Manatee #165

I’m still riding the post-Folk Fest high. Around 30 hours of live music, meeting up with old friends, acquainting new ones, and so many snapshots. I wish every weekend were Folk Fest! The Monday afterward kind of feels like this cross between good memories and the horrible realization that it’ll be a whole year until the next one. Plus school is starting again soon, if you’re into that kind of thing (or if your wife is a school teacher), it very immediately starts to feel like summer is over.

Between all of this buzzing around my mind, my desire to get through some of the great music I haven’t played on the air yet, and you just know Cory will have found one or two recent releases from somebody super cool, I think we’ll have a pretty eclectic show tonight.

Tune in from 11:00 to midnight, pour yourself that end-of-the-day drink of something nice and warming, and enjoy!
