Operation Manatee Presents Regina Folk Fest Survival Guide 2016

I’m dusting off my summer hats, digging out my older, more festival-worn Birks, lining up my beads, stocking up on film, curating playlists, and just getting in the mood for the single most fun weekend in Regina!

This is the weekend I look forward to the most, every year. People are smiling and singing, music is playing, you’re out in the fresh air, with friends – new and old, no judgments are made. Yep. It’s pretty great. Don’t just go and expect the will of the universe to provide though (actually, you could probably get away with that, at this event)! Take these as handy tips to aid you in your delightful time.

Those who remember previous years’ Survival Guides (or those who don’t: 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012), know that traditionally, I’ve focused on the settlers. This one is for the nomads, so there are two categories below…

Operation Manatee Music Prize: Top Five Albums of 2015

Coming up with this list is always hard. You’ve seen how much good music makes it under my radar in a year. Paring it down to 5 means leaving out heaps of really good music. Alas, it must be done (actually, it doesn’t – I’m clearly doing this for fun).

Keeping in the spirit of the new Operation Manatee Music Prize, I’m again doing that thing everyone on the internet hates: changing something. Instead of reading from my number 1 pick, up, I’m doing a big, old-fashioned countdown.

Operation Manatee #114: The Thing You Do When It’s Tuesday Night And The Radio’s On

It’s nighttime. You’re still up. Not feeling like going to bed yet. Maybe it’s video game time. Maybe it’s up with friends time. Operation Manatee #112: Third Annual Mosaic-atee!

The Regina Cathedral Arts Festival Street Fair has come and gone which now means one thing… IT’S SUMMER!!

Well, not “officially” I guess, but we at OpMan have always used the RCAFSF as the unofficial start to all the fun summer activities that Regina has to offer.

First up… Regina Multicultural’s MOSAIC 2015 with your favorite multi-ethnic gnome riding a manatee! Tonight, Chris and Cory pay homage with their third annual Mosaic special, playing music based on the 20 pavilions Reginans will be enjoying in this weekend’s activities.

Tune in at 11:00 pm on 91.3 FM in Regina or online at http://www.cjtr.ca. And don’t forget Saturday is the CJTR garage sale, from 9-5. See you there, bright and early!

Operation Manatee #111: All I Can Say, My Life is Pretty Plain…

We here at Operation Manatee recognize that it is only May, however there seems to be a disconnect between what we expect in “May weather” and what we’re being given by the grand harlot of the trees…

Cory has always said that in a world of druthers, he’druther it be cold because you can always add layers to warm up. There’s only so many layers you can strip off to cool down before it becomes a felony.

But hot days turn into beautiful evenings, so stay up and listen to us at 11:00 pm on CJTR in Regina. 91.3 FM… we’ll play something hot… or mellow and cool, whatever you might prefer.

Apologies Fan-atees!

Hey everyone,

Apologies for the later notice, but tonight’s Operation Manatee will be postponed until next week, due to WILD plague conditions ripping through the streets, tearing away FLESH and eating our BRAINS…

Or you know… terrible allergies… they feel about the same.

We’ll be back next week for your musical tastes and needs. Hugs and kisses!!

Operation Manatee #106: Lessons in Containing the Plague

Man… cocaine is a hell of a drug… I feel like I’ve lost the last two weeks…

Wait a second… I DID lose the last two weeks…

But to be fair, last week wasn’t REALLY part of a coke-fuelled binge through the south-eastern US of A. No, the vast majority of the night was spent blowing stuff OUT of my nose instead of putting it inside. It’s that time of year again…

But join us tonight, as I emerge from my quarantined stronghold to bring a little new music to your ears. I’ll even do my best not to spread the remnants of this plague to Chris… but no promises.

Operation Manatee #102: TWO YEAR MANATIVERSARY!!!

Just when you thought you’d had enough of us.  Do we quit?  Do we just lie down?  Do we leave the community radio programming to one of the other several dozen perfectly capable CJTR programmers?  Hell no!  We keep going.  In the face of all odds, this is your one and only Operation Manatee.

Tune in for radio goodness from 11:00 to midnight, and… brace yourself.
